Summertime Strawberries May 31 2013

strawberry daiquiri

Summer is my favorite season for many reasons. Reason #57 is the abundance of delicious summer fruits that can be added to just about any cocktail to bring a fresh flavor profile. One of the easiest twists on a ReJiggered cocktail is to muddle some fresh fruit in the pint glass just before adding everything else and shaking.

Berries work particularly well for this, but many fruits, herbs, and even vegetables can be added in this way. The strawberries at the local market have been calling my name recently, so today we'll use them to make a strawberry daiquiri.

The recipe is the basic ReJiggered daiquiri recipe (light rum, lime juice, and simple syrup) with the addition of muddled strawberries just before shaking. 3 or 4 small strawberries will usually do the trick. If you have a muddler, you can use that, but a wooden spoon works just as well. The goal is just to smash up the strawberries to release their juices. This is a great summertime cocktail to enjoy on a hot day. Try this technique with Margaritas, Lemon drops, or Tom Collins. They are all delicious!
