Kickstarter Custom Cocktail: Noah's Negroni December 02 2013

 Negroni recipe

With another Kickstarter custom cocktail, we’ll explore a ReJgger variation on a classic cocktail, the Negroni. While a traditional Negroni is based on an equal ratio of gin, vermouth, and Campari, we’re going to ReJigger things a bit and introduce another flavor component by using bitters. In this version, we’ll dial up the gin component while reducing the amount of Campari. But we’ll still keep the bitter profile of the drink by adding bitters.

This is a really fun variation on the classic Negroni because you can really play around with different bitters to get subtle flavor changes to your drink. And right now, there are so many good artisanal bitters being made with a wide range of flavors.

To put this drink together, start with your favorite gin in the largest compartment. Recently I’ve become a huge fan of St. George gins, particularly their Terroir gin, which works really well in this drink. Next, add sweet vermouth to the medium compartment and Campari to the smallest compartment. Fill a pint glass with ice and add 3-5 dashes of the bitters of your choice. Pour in all the ingredients and mix.

Since this is a spirits based cocktail, I like to do the ReJigger swirl to mix and chill this cocktail as opposed to shaking it. If you missed the post on the Manhattan and the ReJigger swirl, you basically place the ReJigger on top of the pint glass just like you normally would, but instead of shaking, you just swirl it around to mimic stirring a cocktail. Once the drink is thoroughly mixed and chilled, strain it into a glass over ice. If you want to get fancy, you can garnish it with an orange slice. Cheers!
