Whisky Dew June 04 2013
We received a pleasant surprise in our CSA farm box this week… a giant honeydew. Sounds like it’s time to play around with some honeydew cocktails. As with other fruits, the easiest way to add some honeydew flavor to your favorite cocktail is to muddle some chunks of honeydew just before shaking your cocktail.
An added bonus with melons is that you can create ice cubes by cutting cubes of the melon and freezing them. Not only will this keep your cocktail cold but at when you finish your drink, you’ll have deliciously soaked pieces of honeydew to eat.
For this cocktail, we’ll pair the honeydew with bourbon, which is a surprisingly good combination. We’ll fill our ReJigger with Maker’s Mark bourbon, Pimm’s no. 1, and some fresh squeezed lemon juice. Next, we’ll add 3-4 chunks of honeydew and a few dashes of Angostura bitters to the pint glass and muddle it just before adding everything and shaking. Pour it into a chilled glass with a couple of honeydew ice cubes and enjoy!
